Hello 2023, did ya miss me?
It’s been so long since I’ve actually read and finished a book, and it’s been even longer since I’ve posted on my blog! I took a hiatus because of the wedding, but now that I’m married, I have more free time finally. (Until February, when I go to grad school for 2 years….)
I missed blogging though, so I will post when I can. And here’s the first review I have for 2023!

When I saw the announcement for a new Tycho book, set four years after the events in A Vow So Bold and Deadly, I literally screamed. I love the Cursebreaker series and couldn’t wait to return to that world and revisit some of these characters!

So, the craziest thing happened to me. A wonderful person over at Apartment Guide reached out to me, me, and asked if I wanted to be included in an article about encouraging people to read more and establishing a good reading space (book nook) in your home. And as any reasonable person would say, I said “heck yeah!”

Hey everyone! I hope you had a fun, spooky Halloween (I know I did) with lots of ghouls and candy!
It’s been a while since I’ve done a post other than a blog tour post/spotlight or quick review, but I’m back today with my October 2021 wrap up! With some extra free time, I managed to get through a good amount of books, though I fell into a bit of a slump at the end of the month. Thankfully, my November required reading is much shorter than October, so I’m sure I’ll be able to get to the books I need to and the books I want!

Hey everyone. I think I need a break.
Life has been pretty stressful for me and unfortunately, my blog and my desire to blog has taken a hit. I love writing reviews for the books I read, but I’ve found that I can’t find the motivation or the creativity for anything else. I know that some of you like my reviews while others are here more for the creative posts, which is fine, but I find myself solely reading books to write reviews about them instead of reading them because I want to.
If you haven’t noticed, my TBRs tend to be full of ARCs I’ve agreed to read or blog tours I’m participating in. While I love doing these, I think I flew too close to the sun, and I’m finding myself feeling drained. Reading is becoming more like a chore than a hobby and blogging is starting to follow suit.
I don’t want to myself burnt out and lose joy in these things, so I think a break would be best for me.
I will still post in October for the things I’ve agreed to post for, but I’m not going to be sticking with the five days a week schedule I’ve been doing. If I decide to write a review for a book I read or think of a fun post I want to do, then I will do them, but I’m not going to hold myself accountable if nothing inspires me.
I’m going to call this a mini hiatus – I’m not sure how long I’m going to take a break for, but the plan right now is just for the month of October. My friend Alexa did one in August and I could tell it really helped her fall back in love with reading and blogging. Not needing to focus on content oddly helps you focus on content if that makes any sense.
I think this will be good for me. While I’m obviously nervous all my hardwork will just fall down the drain, I know that taking a step back and giving myself time again will ultimately be a good thing. I’ve been consistently blogging five days a week for over a year and a half now, with maybe a vacation week here and there, so this is going to feel very weird for me. I hope you choose to stick around for when I come back and enjoy the few posts that go up while on hiatus!
Before I depart, I want to say thank you to everyone for all your support. It means the world that so many people read my words and my thoughts and stick around to read more. I could never imagine the growth of this blog or the opportunities that have opened up from blogging or even the friends I’ve made in the community. I appreciate everyone who’s left a nice comment, or consistently liked every post I put out, and I couldn’t be more thankful!

Hey everyone! It’s the middle of September and life has been crazy for me.
There are a lot of Jewish holidays in September and we’ve already made it through Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur already, so the big two are done! I’m actually heading up to Queens to visit some of my in-laws for another holiday, Sukkot, this weekend and I’m really excited. I know it’s going to be a good time, I’m just a little stressed to leave my two kitties at home alone.
In terms of reading, this month has been going pretty smoothly. I haven’t blown through books like I wish I could, but I don’t think I’m falling behind. I’m right where I’m supposed to be – I think. Anyways, here’s what I’ve read, what I’m reading, and what I want to read for the rest of September!
Vampires are back and I love the direction Sonia took this story. From the first chapter, I was invested in forever 16 y/o Holly who has to work at Taco Bell because she decided to be turned into a vampire and can’t manage to get a job anywhere else.
I loved the story, but for the love of God, publishers PLEASE allow the pdfs to be sent to kindle! I had to read this on my laptop, which isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it was seriously annoying. I would have much rather read this on my iPad or phone where I can at least take it around with me, instead of having to remain somewhat stationary. So for future reference, please don’t force me to read this on my laptop, please and thank you!

I love the cover of this book and how simple, yet eerie it is. I wasn’t sure how scary or intense this book was going to be, but it ended up being really good and not too much! I love the historical fiction elements, the murder mystery, and the female empowerment all wrapped up into one book.

September is an interesting month because while I have some ARCs I need to read, it is way more manageable than August. August and October are my busiest ARC months, so September is my break from the craziness. So without further ado, here are some of the books I want to read in September!
Hey guys! I’m so excited to be able to share my review This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron! I loved Cinderella is Dead and was so excited for this new series! Last year, I binge read Cinderella is Dead in one sitting (took me about 2.5 hours) because I couldn’t put the book down. It was so, so good and when I saw that Kalynn had a new series coming out, I was so excited!!! Surprisingly enough, I somehow managed to receive an ARC of the book, but it arrived a few days before release day, so I didn’t get a chance to read it in time. Then, I got the Owlcrate version of the book and put it on my July TBR! Well, July turned into August and two months post release, my review is finally here! Yay!

Another day, another thriller novel review! But this one is just thriller, no paranormal/fantasy thriller today. I know, you’re so sad! I promise you though – this book is so good. And terrifying. I was dumb enough to read this late into the night and ended up finishing it at 2am. Yeah, not a great idea. But I can definitely say that this book will creep you out and scare the heck out of you. So, let’s dive in!

My TBR for July was pretty ambitious. I had twelve books on there and I got through 10.5 of them! While I didn’t finish Igniting Darkness by Robin LaFevers before the end of the month, I hope to finish it soon because I love this duology! (And no, I didn’t read the original trilogy. I know! I know! I need to!)
With everything going on in my life, I’m so proud of myself for how much I read and getting through all the required reading, and even some optional read I put on the list if I had extra time, which I did! I call July a win and here’s what I read!
After several people, and many more TikToks, told me to read this book, I couldn’t resist. I have been reading a lot of romances recently and this one sounded so cute, so I bought a copy and read it in 2 days. And y’all, this is so cute!!

I have managed to read and finish a lot of books this month, more than I thought I would, and I’m pretty proud of myself. Even within this last week I read three books and have started on my fourth. Usually, I’m lucky to finish one or two, so I’m happy with my reading overall this week!
I’m a big fan of historical fantasy books, so when I saw Erin was writing one, I knew it was going to be good! If you haven’t read her first book, House of Salt and Sorrows, you should definitely check it out! It’s a twelve dancing princesses retelling and very, very creepy!

It’s been a month since I last did this, so I thought it would be a fun comparison to see what I’m currently reading and watching! My show watching has decreased a lot and my reading has gone up, but I still managed to start watching some new stuff! So yay!
Good morning and happy Friday! I’m so excited for the weekend because I have absolutely nothing planned and I could use the two rest days. I was really struggling with what to write for today until I stumbled across this book tag and knew that this is the one I wanted to do! So lets start this weekend off right with The Fantasy Tropes Book Tag!
This week has been not great for me. A lot of sad, stressful things happened in a short amount of time and I’m still not recovered from it. On Monday morning, we woke up to find out our fish had died. I gave my fiance that fish as a present 4 years ago and he was with us through everything. He was a blood parrot cichlid named Smiley and he was so lively. He would swim up to greet you and do tricks, like flipping upside down for us. We are both so sad that he passed. And that was just the icing on the shit week I’ve been having. I won’t even go into the other stuff I’ve been dealing with, but I’ll summarize with lots of tears and lots of arguing. Not fun.
I’m going on and on about life. You’re not here for that. It’s sad because Sunday started off great and then turned for the worst and it’s just gotten more and more awful since then. But anyways, here’s my reading update for this week!

Guys, I am obsessed with this book. When it says The Cruel Prince meets A Court of Thorns and Roses, they weren’t lying. I think that is one of the most accurate taglines I have ever read and I cannot emphasize how good this book is. I read it in one day because every second I wasn’t reading, my mind drifted to this book. To what was happening. And I had to know what was going to happen next. And now that I’ve finished it … I need the next book immediately!
Does anyone else create wish lists so when someone asks what you want for your birthday or what you want to trade, you can just slide them this list and not have to spend forever thinking about what you want? Cause I do! Today, I thought it would be fun to show what some of those wishlist books are – but there’s a lot. So I’m just going to do a few of them.

June was a weird month. On the one hand, I did pretty well with my TBR and finally read a book I’ve been dying to read for a while! On the other hand, life has been hectic. I’m planning my wedding, trying to spruce up my house so we can have guests come over and enjoy the space, and all the while I’m trying to write, and work, and read, and ah! It’s a lot lol
So my apologies for the down time I had in May and beginning of June. I think I’m finally getting back on track and I think it shows based off how much I read! I also went ahead and linked my reviews for each book, so if you want to read my thoughts or find out more information on a book, be sure to check them out!
I had been trying to read this book for months. Every time I thought I would be able to sit down and read it, something came up. And it didn’t matter that it was staring at me on my shelf, patiently waiting for me to pick it up and read, oh no. None of that mattered.
But, finally – FINALLY! I had some free time to really sit down and devour this book. I read this in less than 48 hours and I probably could have finished it in a day if I didn’t have to work. I had some doubts going into this book, but after reading it, all I can say is wow.

It’s the end of the month, which means I have to think about what I’m going to read next month. This TBR was actually really hard! I’ve noticed my motivation to read has been slipping, so I had to balance what I need to read this month and what I want to read. And I think I’ve found a good balance.
Here’s what I’m planning to read in July 2021!
This book took me by surprise because while I was expecting a dark fantasy, wow some of these scenes were pretty intense. I mean, like torture intense. It definitely was not what I expected but it was still pretty good! I originally got an e-ARC of this book wayyyy back, but then eventually bought a physical copy, which is what I will be reviewing today!
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of The Kinder Poison by Natalie Mae back in 2019 and since then, I’ve been obsessed! I couldn’t wait for the sequel and oh my goodness, it lived up to my expectations and then some!! If you haven’t read The Kinder Poison, check out my spoiler free review here!

I am so happy I finally finished reading this book. This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2021 and I am so thankful for the publisher for sending me a finished copy for review! I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait for the sequel!

While you can read queer books at any time of the year, I know a lot of people love to scream recommendations during Pride month. While I don’t wait or save books to recommend just during June, I did want to make a list of some queer YA books I’ve recently read, reviewed, and loved! Because recently, there’s been a lot.
I will put a label with the representation in this book. I tried to stick with books that have queer main characters (MC) or prominent characters. I have also linked my review if you’re interested in hearing my thoughts or finding out more about the book!
If you are a Goodreads user, you know there is an option to do a reading challenge. You set how many books you want to read in a year and Goodreads will track how many books you’ve read, how close or far away you are from your goal, and when you’ve completed it.

I managed to read two books while on vacation and while I would have loved to read more, I’m pretty happy with what I’ve read honestly. It was a good balance between spending time with my family and having time to myself to relax.
With that being said, here’s what I’ve managed to read, what I’m currently reading, and what I want to read for the rest of June.
My friend Alexa over at Writing the Universe somehow managed to get an extra ARC of Better Together from Wednesday Books and she was kind enough to give me her extra copy (thank you!). We ended up somewhat buddy reading this book together and um… it was interesting. Definitely interesting.
I’m going to link her review as well, since she has some strong opinions about this book too.
I have been sitting in front of my computer for days trying to put into words how this book made me feel. All of my incoherent thoughts just swimming around my head and unfortunately, I have no way of getting them down nicely on paper. So, instead, here is my incoherent screaming about The Wolf and the Woodsman. Thank you so so much to Harper Voyager for the ARC!

I managed to get an ARC of this book right before release on NetGalley, but it wasn’t until I purchased a physical copy at B&N that I got motivated to read it. See, I knew I was going to love this book (and obviously I was right) so it made sense to just buy a copy and I’m so glad I did. I loved this book so much and I can’t wait for the sequel!
Happy Wednesday everybody! This weekend was so much fun as I got to see my family and enjoy breaking the fast to end Passover, so I was pretty busy cooking and cleaning with not much reading time. Still, I managed to get some reading done so here is another WWW Wednesday!

I’m technically reading two books right now, A Dark and Hollow Star and I’m also reading When We Were Infinite by Kelly Loy Gilbert right now. I’m hoping to finish both of these by the weekend, so I can get started on some blog tour books that I need to read before the end of the month! I’m also doing some non-fiction reading too, so I feel like I have even less time to read and review books right now.
I was so excited for this book. I really, really was. But once I started reading it, the only thing I could think of was “please stop”. It was tragic.
I was so excited when I received an ARC of Namesake from Wednesday Books, all I wanted to do was drop everything and read this. Sadly, life gets in the way, but I was finally able to read this book and I loved it! If you haven’t read Fable yet, be sure to check out my spoiler free review here.
I won a copy of What Big Teeth from BookishFirst after reading a sneak preview on their site. The prologue and first chapter got me so excited for this book, but after reading it, it didn’t live up to my hopes.
It’s April 1st and while I’m not big into pranks and stuff, I really did play myself with reading this month. I was on track to finish all the books I wanted to read for this month, but life did not want me to finish reading them. Every time I think I’m going to finish my TBR and have time to read extra books, it doesn’t happen. In March, I was halfway through the month and was doing so well, then our offer was accepted on a house and I had zero time and motivation to read.
So for April, even though there are so many books I want to put down on my TBR, I’m sticking with nine. Three are for blog tours, five are all NetGalley books I need to read and review, and one is a TBR book my friends are dying for me to read. If I have extra time available, I am absolutely reading other books as well, but for now I’m going to be realistic. Most likely I’ll be busy with packing and moving and unpacking, so it’s better to keep my expectations low.

I finally finished this book! It has been so hard trying to find time to read these past few weeks. If you weren’t aware, my fiance and I are currently in the process of buying a house! And at the same time, I’m also unfortunately dealing with some medical issues and too many doctors appointments. Oh and this week is the week of Passover.
I’m a little busy. So trying to read has been pretty difficult. But, I finally found time to finish this amazing book and I’m so desperate for more!
This is my first time participating in WWW Wednesday but I thought it was fitting for the week I’ve had! I haven’t finished reading anything this whole week and a half due to stress and other things, like buying a house. So here’s a small update.
I have been working my butt off to get through the NetGalley books I have and get my score up above 80%. When I started I was at 70% and stayed there for months as more and more books were approved. I recently (finally) hit 80% on my account and have worked to get below 20 books for so long.
I could not believe I am able to participate in this blog tour for Sweet & Bitter Magic. This is one of my most anticipated reads and WOW did it live up to that expectation! I am not joking when I say that I’m obsessed with this book and I need a series continuation of at least 10 more please.

I finally was able to read my copy of ACOSF and I loved it. I connected with Nesta’s journey a lot and found ways to help myself heal through her story, so if you’re not a fan of SJM and were planning on coming to my blog to harass me for reading this book, please don’t. I know SJM is a polarized author, I know not everyone supports her, but her books have really helped me face my own trauma and mental health and I appreciate her writing about those experiences.
Please remember to be kind and that everyone has their own story to tell. Thank you.
I read Crave several months ago and fell in love with it. After that ending, I was so curious to see where this series was heading and how we were going to have any more books! I was lucky enough to be accepted to participate in a blog tour for Covet and knew I had to overcome my fear and read Crush.

I have always been interested in reading this book, ever since it came in a Fairyloot box last year. When I received an e-ARC of Written in Starlight, I knew I needed to get moving and read this book and I finally did! It was my final read of 2020 and I ended up loving it! But based off the ending, I’m curious how there’s going to be a sequel. While I have some ideas I’m excited to see what we have in store for us next. As for now, here are my thoughts on Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibañez!

Today, I’m doing a mini review for The Princess and the Pawn (The Raven and the Dove #0.5) by Kaitlyn Davis. This is a prequel novella for The Raven and the Dove, which if you haven’t read, you absolutely need to! I will link my review here for that book. You can definitely read the prequel before reading the first book, as it’s intended, although it’s not necessary to read the first book.

Today I am reviewing Soulswift by Megan Bannen. No joke, this book is a perfect combination of Serpent & Dove and Wicked Saints in terms of some tropes and the overall vibes. Forced marriage between two enemies? Check. Religious differences impacting the fate of the world? Check. Creepy, disturbing monsters hunting main characters in the woods? Check again!

There are so many amazing books in the world and a few of them are not getting the recognition they deserve. I feel like some books are over recommended over sometimes even overhyped, while other titles are pushed to the sidelines.

December is my birthday month and this year I’m blessed to have it fall on a Tuesday, which is book release day! So here are the top books I’m DYING to read in December and will mostly likely buy on my birthday!
I own a kindle so sometimes I like to browse through the free or $0.99 books to see what there is. And it’s usually a lot. I’m also subscribed to the BookBub email, so I get alerts on kindle deals every day – which makes it even harder to resist books when they show up for free in my email.

Reading slumps are the bane of my existence. Every time I’m on a roll with reading and feel motivated, I’m hit with a bus and left withering on the floor.
And of course, fail at whatever goal I was trying to succeed at.
The beginning of this month I was doing so well! But after the middle of the month, I only managed to read TWO books. Ugh. Out of ten books total, I’m a bit disappointed with myself, but oh well. There’s nothing I can do about it now.

I managed to trade for an ARC of Beyond the Ruby Veil by Mara Fitzgerald a couple of months ago. I had heard great things about this book, so I wanted to read it for myself, and it was so good!
The hardest thing for me, once I finish a book, is finding another book to read! Sometimes I want something along the same lines as what I just read and not being able to find something that satiates that hunger is so frustrating. I made my way over to Barnes & Noble this past weekend to pick up some new releases that I have been dying to read, so I thought I would show you what I got!

I hadn’t heard a lot about this book when I requested it except that it was a fantasy novel, so I didn’t have any preconceived thoughts going in (besides what the synopsis said). I didn’t know if I would like it, but I’m here to report that I loved it!
It took me a week to read White Fox by Sara Faring, which means that I am not reading a lot, so I thought it would be fun to do a currently reading and watching post!
My watching habits are mood based, so it can honestly change from week to week. But this is what I’ve been watching and reading this week and what I plan to watch soon!
I saw that The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi was Read Now on NetGalley and without thinking, I downloaded it to my kindle. I hadn’t read The Gilded Wolves, in fact, I had DNFed it originally. But I downloaded it anyways because *cue the theme song* I’m an idiot!
But I ended up loving The Gilded Wolves and, not surprisingly, I loved The Silvered Serpents even more!

Today I am reviewing Legendborn by Tracy Deonn. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley and I’m so glad I got to read it early. This book has quickly become one of my all time favorite books and I was so happy to find out it’s going to be a series!
This book is filled with magic, adventure, and some American history and it is AMAZING

I was hesitant to read and review this book due to some drama on book twitter, but I had won the copy and felt I should at least read it.
So, here are my thoughts.

First off, can we just admire this cover? Like, I absolutely love how beautiful it is. And the contents match it. This book was so beautiful and healing for me, I couldn’t put it down. With less than 300 pages, this was a book I devoured in two sittings – 50% before bed, 50% when I woke up. I really enjoyed Watch Over Me by Nina LaCour and couldn’t stop myself from reading.

Recently, I DNFed Sanctuary by Paola Mendoza and Abby Sher. I enjoyed the book, but unfortunately, the anxiety and paranoia Vali was dealing with was too much for me to handle. I started reflecting that and becoming so anxious I was about to have a panic attack. Needless to say, definitely couldn’t continue reading it, even though I liked the story and was interested to see what happened next.
I’m not sure I would call it my guilty pleasure, but I am a huge fan of A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab – actually, anything by her really! I could re-read that series any day. That and Crescent City by Sarah J. Maas.
I really hated The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Another book I hated was Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. Could not get into either of them at all and ultimately DNFed.
Oh jeez, probably The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Absolutely awful! One of the most boring books I’ve ever read in my entire life and I’m still mad I was forced to read it. This book made me hate my 11th grade English class so much.
I am not a big re-reader. In fact, I haven’t re-read a book in years so I can’t really answer this question. When I was younger, I re-read Twilight, Vampire Academy, and The Mortal Instruments series multiple times. I couldn’t get enough of them.
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck.
Ohhh, that’s a difficult question. There’s not a single book alone I couldn’t live without, I can’t give up any of my books! If I HAD to choose one, then my first edition copy of Vicious by V.E. Schwab. Not only did I pay a lot for it, but I love that book so much, it’s one of my prized possessions.
Blood & Honey by Shelby Mahurin. The ending made me so mad, I threw my kindle across the room . . .
It’s a tie between Crescent City and Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. Both made me absolutely sob for over an hour.
There are some pretty bad book covers, but I don’t think I’ve found one that I hate the most. I don’t like the new ACOTAR covers at all. I think they’re hideous.

I had to take a few days to really digest this book, because if I wrote my initial thoughts after finishing this it would just be screaming (AAAHHH) across the screen.
I won an ARC of To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini from Bookish First and Tor in exchange for an honest review. I’m going to start off by saying that I love the Eragon series (though I haven’t read it in many years) so I was a little biased going into this. But let me tell you, this book is so good, it blew my expectations out of the water!

I don’t think I’ve ever written a DNF (did not finish) review before, so this is a first. Usually when I DNF a book, it’s not an ARC I’ve been given by the publisher for review, it’s one that I decided to read on my own. After the whole debacle on Sunday regarding an author calling out a reviewer for DNF-ing and posting a “bad” review on Goodreads, I am a little nervous to post my thoughts.
But, the whole point of reviewing books are to review them, good or bad. So I’m gonna talk about why I DNFed this book and what my thoughts are. Surprisingly, they’re not bad at all!
