This is my first time participating in WWW Wednesday but I thought it was fitting for the week I’ve had! I haven’t finished reading anything this whole week and a half due to stress and other things, like buying a house. So here’s a small update.
WWW Wednesday’s is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words, and all it involves is answering three simple questions:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
What are you currently reading?
The Theft of Sunlight by Intisar Khanani
Published: March 23, 2021
Publisher: HarperTeen
Genre: YA Fantasy
Pages: 528
Goodreads
I did not choose this fate. But I will not walk away from it.
Children have been disappearing from across Menaiya for longer than Amraeya ni Ansarim can remember. When her friend’s sister is snatched, Rae knows she can’t look away any longer – even if that means seeking answers from the royal court, where her country upbringing and clubfoot will only invite ridicule.
I’m about halfway through this book right now and absolutely love it! It’s the companion novel to Thorn, which you absolutely should read and I’ll link my review here. I’m so happy I’m back in this world and with these characters, it feels like coming home.

Phoenix Flame by Sara Holland
Published: March 2, 2021
Publisher: Bloomsbury YA
Genre: YA Contemporary Fantasy
Pages: 272
Goodreads
Bestselling author Sara Holland continues her blockbuster contemporary fantasy series about the Inn at Havenfall with this unforgettable sequel.
Maddie thought her problems were over. She saved the Inn at Havenfall—a sanctuary between magical worlds—from the evil Silver Prince. Her uncle the Innkeeper is recovering from a mysterious spell that left him not quite human. And there are still a few weeks of summer left to spend with her more-than-friend Brekken…
I was not a fan of this book. It wasn’t as good as the first book, Havenfall, and I just had a lot of problems with it. That might also be why I haven’t finished a book in ten days too. It was so disappointing to love the first book and then have this one flop immediately after.

What Big Teeth by Rose Szabo
Published: February 2, 2021
Publisher: FSG
Genre: YA Fantasy
Pages: 394
Goodreads
Rose Szabo’s thrilling debut is a dark and thrilling novel about a teen girl who returns home to her strange, wild family after years of estrangement, perfect for fans of Wilder Girls.
Eleanor Zarrin has been estranged from her wild family for years. When she flees boarding school after a horrifying incident, she goes to the only place she thinks is safe: the home she left behind. But when she gets there, she struggles to fit in with her monstrous relatives, who prowl the woods around the family estate and read fortunes in the guts of birds.
I won a hardcover copy through BookishFirst and have been dying to read it since I read the sneak peak. This book has been sitting in my purse for the past week and I can’t wait to pick it up after The Theft of Sunlight. I know once I can get through another book, I’m going to be reading so much again. Hopefully the stress won’t put me in a horrible slump!
And that’s a wrap on my first WWW Wednesday! This is such a cool idea I’ve been wanting to participate in for a while now and I’m glad I finally got the chance to do it. Hopefully, the next time I do one of these, I’ll have an update on what I’ve recently read. I’m tired of being in this slump.
I planned to start Phoenix Flame this month but didn’t get round to it 😭
