This past week has been amazing for my writing! I wish I had Scrivener to track my progress, but alas I have Word and my memory at this point. Which means that some of these numbers might be off (sorry). I’m trying my best.

It’s been a little while since I’ve done a writing update and since I’ve gotten a lot accomplished this week, I thought it was time to let you know where my book is!

For the past 3 months I’ve been in a writing slump. I wrote 50,000 words in the month of May and was on such a roll! Until I hit 52,000 words and slumped so hard I couldn’t even pick it back up. It was bad.

From my last update I wrote a little bit more, about 3,000 words for my draft, bringing me up to 55,000 words.

Over this past week I got so much motivation and I knew if I didn’t utilize it now, this book was never going to be finished. So I sad down and I wrote. I went from 55,000 to 58,000 and then in my next session I went from 58,000 to 66,728 words.

I’m honestly so proud of myself. In one sitting I wrote out 8,700 words and propelled myself to the end. Now, I already have ideas about what I want to change, so I can theoretically jump into editing at any time.

Initially I was hoping for 90,000-100,000 words to stop around, but I realized that was insane for a first draft because there’s a lot I need to add. I’d be happy if I hit 80,000, but I’m expected to fall below that.

In terms of actual content, I finally pushed past the one scene that was giving me trouble. Leading up to a big moment in the book, I felt it drag and I couldn’t quite seem to get myself to push forward past the scene. I knew if I could get through that part, then the ending would basically flow out, but man that was an uphill battle.

I already have content I need to change/fix/add ready in my mind for edits. I’m gonna be smart and also write them down so I don’t forget it! Especially since I need to add more chapters for this one character and there’s a lot we need to go over for him.

But I’m so happy to announce that I finally finished drafting my book! I wrote THE END and I’m going to be heading into edits!!

As a fun extra to celebrate finishing my first draft, I’m going to include a funny scene I wrote yesterday that had me cracking up!
